DISTRICT LEADErS

DISTRICT Director

Dr Abdul Sathar, DTM

District Director

Becoming a district director was not just a career milestone; it was a testament to my dedication, hard work, and relentless persistence. Currently working as an orthopedic surgeon, my journey through various leadership roles—from club Excom to area, division, club growth director, and finally to district director—has been filled with challenges, learning experiences, and significant achievements.

After completing my education and starting my practice as a doctor, I quickly realized the importance of effective communication and leadership within the medical field. This realization led me to join a local club, where I became involved in the executive committee (Excom). In the initial stages, I took on roles such as Vice President of Education and Club President. These positions allowed me to develop my leadership skills and understand the intricacies of managing a team. It was during this time that I discovered my passion for leadership and organizational development.

Balancing my demanding medical career with my responsibilities within the club was challenging. However, this commitment taught me valuable time management skills and the importance of delegation and teamwork. More importantly, it introduced me to a community of like-minded individuals who shared my enthusiasm for leadership and personal growth.

After gaining substantial experience at the club level, I decided to take on more responsibilities and transitioned into area roles. As an Area Director, I was responsible for overseeing several clubs, ensuring they met their goals, and providing support to their leaders. This role was a significant step up, requiring a broader perspective and more strategic thinking.

During this period, I met many other leaders and mentors who greatly influenced my journey. These individuals, with their diverse experiences and insights, taught me the value of collaboration and the power of a supportive network. Facing challenges such as club retention, member engagement, and conflict resolution was daunting. However, I tackled these issues by implementing structured plans, conducting training sessions, and fostering a culture of open communication.

This chapter of my journey was marked by a deeper understanding of organizational dynamics and the development of a more strategic approach to leadership. I learned that leadership was not just about giving directions but about inspiring others and working together towards common goals.
